About Red Door: Red Door is a not-for-profit organization. The mission of the Red Door Shelter is to end homelessness for each family that comes through our doors by providing safe, temporary refuge and critical services to support them in healing, rebuilding their lives and integrating back into a community. Responsibilities:

Day Child Care Program Activities
  • Responsible for providing a safe, caring nurturing, environment and supervising the daily routine of children under care.
  • Implements structured social activities for children to keep them engaged and develop social and communication skills.
  • Maintains accurate plan of action for outings, including list of participants.
  • Under the direction of the program plan/s ensure that children have enough physical activity, rest, and playtime.
  • Watch for signs of problems in children and bring them to the attention of parents.
  • Keep records of children’s progress, routines, and interests. Prepare accident and incident reports as required.
  • Entertaining children under care by reading and playing games with a strong education focus.
  • Prepare meals and organize mealtimes and snacks for children.
  • Help children keep good hygiene. Change the diapers of infants and toddlers as required.
  • Assists children with homework and other school-related activities to improve educational outcomes.
  • Assists fellow workers with the general housekeeping chores of the residence as outlined under the rules and regulations of the shelter.
 
Housekeeping and Administration
  • Responsible for performing light housekeeping duties to ensure compliance and health and safety of residents.
  • Documents and notifies parents when any accident or incident occurs that could affect the health, safety, or well-being of their child, and be provided with a copy of the report.
  • Assumes other such responsibilities as may be deemed necessary from time to time.
 
Qualifications:
  • Post secondary education in Early Childhood Education; Child and Youth Worker or a combination of education and experience in a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of program planning and experience in setting up structured activities for children of various age groups.
  • Detail oriented individual with solid, evaluation, organizational, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Hostel Training Certificate including CPR, WHIMIS, Hostel Standards and Guidelines, mental health intervention and crisis intervention, VAW specific training, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to provide story telling, ask and answer questions, as well as report back to parents and understand any instructions given to you.
  • All staff, volunteers, and students require criminal reference checks. This includes vulnerable sector screening, which must be updated every three years.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Must have a valid standard first aid certification including infant and child cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week Monday to Friday, 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm   
Salary: $53,643.22 - $54,914.02 per year
